Tourism and leisure
Toulouse, lying alongside the Garonne River and key city along the 17th century Canal du Midi (UNESCO World Herritage), is a popular tourist destination, with many places of historical interest. These include the Capitole main square, religious buildings (including the Saint-Sernin Basilica, Saint-Etienne Cathedral, the former Dominican monastery of les Jacobins), the Roman arena, Renaissance town houses (Assézat, Dupuy, Rességuier, etc.) and many other historic monuments.
You can also roam around the many parks and gardens (Compans-Caffarelli Japanese Garden, Grand Rond, Jardin Royal, Jardin des Plantes, Parc de la Maourine, etc.) and the old narrow streets. In addition to the many shops, there are both covered and open-air markets.
The city that saw the development of Aéropostale, the first civilian international airmail service, is now home to Airbus (you can go on organised tours of the assembly line). Then there is the Cité de l’Espace, a park dedicated to the history of the universe and space technology with a host of animations and exhibits. All these are available at preferential rates.
The Tourist Office organises guided visits of the “Pink City” for you to pack in as much as possible. Albert 1er’s partnership with CityTour also means we can offer you discount bus tours around Toulouse.
